Backgammon is one of the oldest games in existence alongside Go and Chess. It is probably about 5,000 years old and originated in Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq). Because it's a dice game, it is sometimes viewed by the uninitiated as a game of luck. Chance certainly plays its part in the short term but, like poker and bridge, where the deal provides the element of chance, the best player will always win in the end and it is, in fact, a highly skillful game!
The rules of Backgammon can be easily learned in not too much time and you will get a good understanding of the basics in a matter of weeks. If you’ve ever wanted to learn the game, now’s your chance!
